Welcome to Class 1

Welcome to Class One. Mrs Smith is the class teacher, supported by Mrs Davis and Miss Bulling as the class teaching assistant.

We will start the half term with a transition topic to help the children settle into class one after their summer holiday. We will complete activities on the topic 'Roll up! Roll up!'.

When the children have got used to the new routines and expectations of class one, we will begin our Autumn 1 topic 'Fire! Fire!'

In English, we will look at a variety of non-fiction texts. We will write letters, recounts, newspaper articles and diary entrants. We will also look at poems on the theme of fire. We will gather up interesting vocabulary and create a class poem. We will caryy out lots of independent activities in our reading and writing zones to further develop our skills.

In maths, we will focus on number skills. we will work on number recognition (numbers to 100), place value (tens and ones), addition of two numbers and comparing quantities. We will carry out lots of independent activities in our maths zone to further develop our skills.

PE this half term will be on Monday and Thursday afternoon. We are going to look at our fundamental movement skills and carry out activities to assess and develop these skills. We will continue to develop our physical skills in the indoor and outdoor area, including the forest. We will make clay models, cut with scissors and master our handwriting skills. We will run, jump, climb, hop and skip.

The children will carry out continuous provision challenges within the classroom to support and develop their knowledge and understanding on this subject. Some examples of this are;

  • Our new 365 pobble writing challenge.
  • Our new maths resources.
  • Our new reading area.
  • Outdoor carnival challenges linked to maths and phonics.

Hook Day

Our Hook Day will take place on the first day of our 'Fire! Fire!' topic. We will carry out lots of role play and creative activites linked to The Great Fire of London.

PE

This half term our PE lessons are on Monday and Thursday afternoons. Please ensure that your child has their full, correct PE kit with them at all times.

Class Dojo

Your child will continue collecting points throughout the week for displaying attributes set by the class. The children each have an 'avatar' of themselves. The person who collects the most points throughout the week will then be rewarded with a certificate at the end of the week. They will also bring home one of our class mascots, 'Spots' or 'Stompy'. Please send photographs through dojo and encourage your child to write about their fun times together.

Home Learning

Thank you for your continued support at home through homework and reading. Please continue to read with your child at home, developing a love of books, by reading stories to your child as well as listening to them read. Many thanks to everyone striving to listen to your child read every night. Little and often is great and we can see the effort put in when in class.  Thank you for your continued support at home through homework and reading. Children will be given homework tasks. They will be given a homework folder with a bingo sheet  and task cards inside. You should encourage your child to choose a topic and maths task. Two tasks should be completed every two weeks (one topic and one maths). Please return your homework on the dates given on your bingo card. Homework tasks can be found on the tab. If you need anything re-printing, please just ask.

Please feel free to ask if you are struggling with colours or pens and pencils at home.

As always, our door is always open to you!
