Class 1

Welcome to Class 1

Welcome to Class One. Mrs Smith is the class teacher, supported by Mrs Davis and Miss Bulling as the class teaching assistants.

Our Autumn 2 topic is 'This is Our Life'

In English, we will look at a variety of texts with familiar settings. We will focus on Nick Butterworth's stories surrounding 'Percy the Park Keeper'. We will think about characters, settings and events and will use this to develop our own stories in a similar style. We will also carry out instruction writing, focusing on the use of 'bossy' verbs and exploring the features.

As we are in the lead up to Christmas, we will carry out lots of independent activities in our reading and writing zones to further develop our skills, including writing lists, letters, labels and short stories.

In maths, we will focus on number skills. Along with number recognition (numbers to 100), we will consolidate the times tables for 2x, 5x and 10x. We will practise our number bond facts to 10 and 20. We will learn the names and properties of 2D and 3D sahpes and begin learning to tell the time (starting with o'clock and half past). We will carry out lots of independent activities in our maths zone to further develop our skills.

PE this half term will be on Tuesday. The children will develop their gymnastic skills indoors and their game skills outdoors. Please send your child to school every Tuesday in their school PE kit with joggers and a jumper/jacket over the top. Your child should wear trainers to school and bring their pumps with them.

The children will carry out continuous provision challenges within the classroom to support and develop their knowledge and understanding on this subject. Some examples of this are;

  • Our new 365 pobble writing challenge.
  • Our maths zone.
  • Our craft area will have a wide variety of materials and media to draw and explore with.
  • Our reading zone with linked texts (familiar settings).
  • Outdoor carnival challenges linked to maths and phonics.

Stay and Play

Our Stay and Play session will take place towards the end of the half term. We will share the learning with you from this term.

PE

This half term our PE lessons are on Tuesday. Please ensure that your child comes to school in their full, correct PE kit.

Class Dojo

Your child will continue collecting points throughout the week for displaying attributes set by the class. The children each have an 'avatar' of themselves. The person who collects the most points throughout the week will then be rewarded with a certificate at the end of the week. They will also bring home one of our class mascots, 'Spots' or 'Stompy'. Please send photographs through dojo and encourage your child to write about their fun times together.

Thank you for your continued support at home through homework and reading. Please continue to read with your child at home, developing a love of books, by reading stories to your child as well as listening to them read. Many thanks to everyone striving to listen to your child read every night. Little and often is great and we can see the effort put in when in class.  Thank you for your continued support at home through homework and reading. Children will be given homework tasks. They will be given a homework folder with a bingo sheet  and task cards inside. You should encourage your child to choose a topic and maths task. Two tasks should be completed every two weeks (one topic and one maths). Please return your homework on the dates given on your bingo card. Homework tasks can be found on the tab. If you need anything re-printing, please just ask.

Please feel free to ask if you are struggling with colours or pens and pencils at home.
