Class 1

Welcome to Class 1

Welcome to Class One. Mrs Smith is the class teacher, supported by Mrs Davis and Miss Bulling as the class teaching assistants.

Our Spring 2 topic is 'Sensational Scientists'

In English, we will look at a variety of Fantasy Stories. We will focus on stories with robots. We will think about characters, settings and events and will use this to develop our own version of a fantasy story. We will also look at non-chronological reports (information texts).

There will be a variety of fantasy stories in the reading corner along with different tales for each week (No-Bot, Robot Rumpus etc).

In maths, we will continue to focus on number skills. We will work on place value (tens and ones). We will learn skills to carry out multiplication and division. We will continue working with coins to solve problems. We will  also carry out lots of independent activities in our maths zone to further develop our skills.

PE this half term will be on Thursday. Please send your child to school every Thursday in their school PE kit (blue shorts and plain white t-shirt) with their school joggers and hoodie over the top. Your child should wear trainers to school and bring their pumps with them.

The children will carry out continuous provision challenges within the classroom to support and develop their knowledge and understanding on this subject. Some examples of this are;

  • Our 365 pobble writing challenge.
  • Our maths zone.
  • Our craft area will have a wide variety of paints and brushes.
  • Our reading zone with linked texts (fantasy stories).

Hook Day

We will be carrying out a variety of investigative science experiments. This will give the children the scientific language needed in order to carry out explorations and experiments using an enquiry method.

PE

This half term our PE lessons are on Thursday. Please ensure that your child comes to school in their full, correct PE kit (plain white t-shirt and blue shorts, joggers and hoody, trainers and pumps).

Class Dojo

Your child will continue collecting points throughout the week for displaying attributes set by the class. The children each have an 'avatar' of themselves. The person who collects the most points throughout the week will then be rewarded with a certificate at the end of the week. They will also bring home one of our class mascots, 'Spots' or 'Stompy'. Please send photographs through dojo and encourage your child to write about their fun times together.

Thank you for your continued support at home through homework and reading. Please continue to read with your child at home, developing a love of books, by reading stories to your child as well as listening to them read. Many thanks to everyone striving to listen to your child read every night. Little and often is great and we can see the effort put in when in class.  Thank you for your continued support at home through homework and reading. Weekly spellings have been sent out and the quiz is every Friday.

Children will be given homework tasks. They will be given a homework folder with a bingo sheet and task cards inside. You should encourage your child to choose a topic and maths task. Two tasks should be completed every two weeks (one topic and one maths). Please return your homework on the dates given on your bingo card. Homework tasks can be found on the tab. If you need anything re-printing, please just ask.

Please feel free to ask if you are struggling with colours or pens and pencils at home.

As always, our door is always open to you!
