Impact and achievement of 2014/15 

  • The school  achieved ‘Sainburys Gold Award’ for PE and School Sport (achieved bronze in 2013/14)
  • Nominated for ‘School of the Year’ at Rossendale Sports Awards’
  • 7th (out of 30) in league table in RSSP –  (30) points awarded for win, finals and participation
  • 3rd in Inclusion
  • Increase in competitive sport -
  • Increase in number of after school provision and increase in numbers
  • Playground Leaders in operation 

For the year 2015/16, all school will receive funding of £8,000 plus £5 per eligible child. At Water Primary, we have chosen to use this funding in the following ways 

We firmly believe that all children should experience high quality PE and School Sport. This belief and ethos allows the school to shape our children into healthy, social and active young people.

We aim to build the skills, knowledge and confidence of our pupils, which leads to lifelong participation through the delivery of unique, broad activities and skills which are fully inclusive and personalised to the needs of our children.

Through the Primary PE and Sport Premium funding we can achieve this by:-

  • To improve the quality of existing PE teaching through continuing professional learning in PE for generalists, so that all our pupils improve their health, skills and physical literacy, and have a broader range of sports.
  • To increase participation levels in competitive sport and healthy activity of pupils, and maintain these throughout their life.
  • To understand the benefits of high quality PE and Sport, including its use as a tool for whole school improvement.
  • To develop a broad and balanced PE and Sport Curriculum 

To provide children with high quality PE and School Sport with reference to long term sustainability

  • Team Teaching with specialist PE teacher
  • Use of external coaches 
  • CPD for all staff

To develop children as leaders by providing further training and opportunities 

  • Little Leader Training - KS1
  • KS1 children shadow KS2 Leaders

To engage least active children in more sporting activities.

  •  Fizzy Skills Programme
  •  Inclusion Sports Programme

To develop a range of after school sports opportunities across the school.

  • X4 sporting clubs each week
  • EYFS Sporting Club

To increase participation of Water Primary School in Intra and Inter school competitions.

  • Involvement in all competitions
  • RSSP Competition Calendar
  • Organise and host competitions, festivals for all Rossendale Schools
  • Lead and develop a programme of events and competitions for small schools in Rossendale 

New for 2015/16

Broad range of PE and School Sport 

  • Broad curriculum to include opportunity to take part in minority sport such as climbing, fencing and EYFS Swimming
Develop use of ICT and assessment tools to track progress within PE and School Sport
  • Track progress throughout the year and measure progress using 'Skills to Achieve' Programme
  • Use iPads to aid teaching and Learning

Improve Health and Well Being of all pupils

  • Healthy Breakfast Club – Breakfast options to include fruit. + healthier options
  • Change for Life now x5 days per week
  • Embed actions from last year – participation, competitive sport –intra and inter and ASC
  • Water bottles for all children 
  • Develop Outdoor Curriculum and Forest Schools (Forest School Training)

Linked to SDP Priority – Improve writing standards across the school

  • Children / Leaders / Sports Ambassadors to promote writing through the use of blogs and sport reports for competition and ASC

  • Increase in number of after school provision and increase in pupil numbers
  • Pupil Survey Results - Taking part in after school activities - 100% positive Sporting activities and physical exercise - 100% positive Hobbies and things that interest me - School always or usually helps me to develop my interests - 100% positive 
  • Assessment - The school now uses 'Skills to achieve' tracking programme for Physical, Emotional and Health criteria for all pupils.
  • Healthy Breakfast - Self Service introduced 
  • Broad and varied curriculum - Last year children took part in a series of lessons which included sports such as kayaking and rock climbing 
  • Participation of inclusion and fizzy skills programme engaging least active pupils
  • 100 % of children experienced 'Forest School' throughout the year and completion of a qualitative study on the impact of Forest School Education
  • Started fundraising programme for a Water Primary School Mini Bus

Targets for 2016

  • Develop Healthy Breakfast and Self Service - Children from our Eco - Committee visited Northcote Manor Hotel for inspiration and ideas.
  • Increase in participation for Girls and links to local clubs - Haslingden Girls Football team to deliver a series of lunchtime sessions. 
  • Children / Leaders / Sports Ambassadors to promote writing through the use of blogs and sport reports for competition and ASC 
  • Broad and Balanced Curriculum - Pupils to participate in a range of minority sports
  • Continue to develop outdoor learning and forest schools
  • Completion of fundraising programme for Water Primary School Mini Bus
  • Continue CPD and professional training for all staff using RSSP Programme of training. 

Impact so far in 2016/17

  • Visit by our Eco Committee to Northcote Manor 
  • Girls Football Lunchtime sessions completed with Haslingden Girls Football Team - x3 of our girls now members of Haslingden Girls Football Team.
  • Forest Fridays now in operation for Class 1
  • Yearly CPD Programme for staff
