Welcome to Blossom Class

Class Teacher: Miss Ashworth
Teaching Assistant: Miss Sykes
Hello everyone and welcome to Blossom Class!
We hope you have all had a wonderful summer and enjoyed spending time with your family and friends. We are looking forward to an exciting year filled with new learning, fun experiences and lots of opportunities to shine.
Autumn 1 PE Days – Monday and Thursday
English
This half-term, we will be exploring a classic adventure story as part of our English learning. We will develop our reading, comprehension and writing skills whilst learning about life during World War II. Using our imagination, we will create mythical creatures and write our own exciting stories inspired by the text.
Whole Class Reading

This term, we will be studying an exciting novel by Michael Morpurgo, using our VIPERS reading skills to explore characters, themes, vocabulary and deeper meanings within the text, whilst developing our comprehension, discussion and inference skills.
Maths

This half-term, we will be developing our mathematical knowledge through our Power Maths scheme. Year 4 pupils will begin by exploring place value in 4-digit numbers, whilst Year 5 pupils will extend their understanding of place value within 1,000,000. The children will practise reading, writing, ordering and comparing numbers, as well as using reasoning and problem-solving skills to deepen their understanding of number and place value.
Please note that Year 4 will carry out a timetables check in June 2027.
Science

This half-term, we will be learning about the digestive system, teeth and healthy lifestyles. The children will identify the main parts of the digestive system and explain how food travels through the body. They will investigate the different types of teeth and their functions, compare the teeth of different animals and learn how these relate to their diet. The children will also explore human growth and development, including the changes that occur during puberty and how babies grow and develop over time.
Readers
Reading is a key part of learning in Blossom Class, and we encourage children to read regularly at home, at least 10/15 per night. Reading books should be brought into school every day and will be changed on Mondays and Thursdays. Children will also visit our school library each Tuesday, where they will have the opportunity to borrow a library book to enjoy at home. Please remember to sign your child's reading record each time they read, as this helps us to celebrate their progress and supports their development as confident, enthusiastic readers. We are also excited to be launching a new Reading Raffle this term, where children will receive a raffle ticket every time they read with an adult at home or in school. The more they read, the more tickets they collect, giving them more chances to win a book from our school book vending machine!
P.E
Our P.E. lessons this half-term will be on Mondays and Thursdays. Please make sure children come in full P.E kit on these days only.
Spelling and Handwriting
Spelling words will be assigned on Spelling Shed (EdShed) each Friday for the following week. On Mondays, children will take part in a spelling lesson to introduce and consolidate the weekly spelling pattern, alongside a focused handwriting session. The children will then continue to practise and apply these spellings during their daily handwriting sessions throughout the week. We encourage children to log on to Spelling Shed regularly at home to help reinforce their learning and build confidence with the weekly spellings.
Snacks
If you would like your child to have a snack, the cost is £1.00 per week, payable via Parent Pay.
If you have any questions or concerns, my door is always open.
Thank you for your continued support.
