Blossom Class - Year 4 & 5
Welcome to Blossom Class
Class Teacher: Miss Lomas
Welcome back, everyone! I hope you've had a lovely summer holidays and are ready for an exciting new year of learning.
Autumn 1 - PE Days are Monday and Tuesday
Autumn 1 - Forest School on a Friday
English
This term in English, we will be exploring the exciting adventure story Arthur and the Golden Rope by Joe Todd-Stanton. The book follows Arthur, a curious and brave boy, who embarks on a magical quest filled with mythical creatures and challenges. As we read, we will be learning how to write detailed character descriptions, focusing on using powerful adjectives and varied sentence structures to bring the characters to life in our own writing.
Maths
We will be continuing using Power Maths this year in our lessons.
The year 4's and year 5's will be focusing on Place Value, building a strong understanding of numbers and how they work.
Timetables are also a very important part of maths and we will continue to develop our understanding of this by using TT Rockstars daily. It would also help the children considerably if they practise at home.
Please note that Year 4 will carry out a timetables check in June 2026.
Geography
This term in Geography, we will be learning about Climate Zones and Biomes. We will explore how different parts of the world have unique climates, from hot deserts to icy polar regions, and how these climates affect the plants, animals, and people that live there. We will also study the world’s major biomes, such as rainforests, grasslands, and tundra, discovering how living things adapt to survive in their environments.
History
This term in History, we will be finding out about Queen Boudica, one of the most famous figures from Roman Britain. We will learn who she was, why she led a rebellion against the Romans, and what life was like for the Celts during this time. Through exploring different sources, we will think about how the story of Boudica has been told over time and consider whether she should be remembered as a hero, a rebel, or both.
Science
This term in Science, we will be studying Animals Including Humans, focusing on the human body and how it changes as we grow. We will learn about the stages of human development, from birth to old age, and explore the changes that happen during puberty. We will also study the importance of a healthy lifestyle, including diet, exercise, and hygiene, in keeping our bodies strong.
Readers
We expect children to be reading at home most nights for around 10/15 minutes. We want to encourage a love of reading as much as possible so that children can understand the key aspects of reading.
P.E
Our P.E. lessons this half-term will be on Monday and Tuesday. Please make sure children come in full P.E kit on these days only.
Forest School
Our Forest School session will be every Friday afternoon in Autumn 1. Please make sure that all children have appropriate clothing.
Spellings
The children will receive their spellings every Friday.
We will have a spelling lesson every Monday to consolidate their weekly spellings.
Snacks
If you would like to buy a healthy snack it is £1 per week, this can be payable as £7 for the half-term through ParentPay.
