At Water Primary School, we believe that spoken language is the foundation for learning, thinking, and communicating. We are committed to developing confident, articulate speakers who can express themselves clearly and listen respectfully to others.
Our mission is to:
- Provide rich opportunities for children to speak, listen, and respond across the curriculum
- Build vocabulary and language skills through discussion, storytelling, drama, and debate
- Support children in developing confidence, clarity, and creativity in their spoken language
- Ensure all pupils can communicate effectively in a range of contexts and for different audiences
This approach reflects the National Curriculum for English, which recognises spoken language as essential for the development of reading and writing. Through purposeful talk, we help children deepen their understanding, share ideas, and become thoughtful, active participants in their learning.
